A landlocked Yacht Club built from Mid-City survival stories: a neighborhood bar with reclaimed-wood bones, park-league energy, and food serious enough to make the game the second reason to stay.
The joke in the name has roots: this is a landlocked Yacht Club in a neighborhood that flooded. Reclaimed cypress doors and floorboards from damaged Mid-City homes give the space a physical sense of survival, without making it feel like a museum.
The layout supports more than one game at a time, but the real draw is the social current.
Saints games, post-league gatherings, and a crowd with neighborhood ties make this a place where watching is a shared activity rather than background noise.
Mid‑City Yacht Club · 440 S. St. Patrick Street
A place to come back to.
01 · The name
A yacht club. No yachts.
You don’t need a boat to belong here.
But a boat is how the name began. After Katrina flooded the old Extra Innings bar, a friend passing by in a rescue boat joked that they ought to call it the Mid‑City Yacht Club.
The joke stayed. Then came the work.
02 · The wood
The neighborhood is in the wood.
Ben and Stefanie Markey joined with M.J. and Jeremy Sauer to rebuild.
Floorboards from the Sauers’ flooded home became the bar top and ceiling. Discarded cypress doors from a funeral home became wainscoting.
On June 21, 2007, the doors opened. Pieces of the neighborhood had become a place to gather.
03 · The park
The game ends. The night doesn’t.
Across the street, St. Patrick Park supplied the next chapter.
Before the flood, kickball players had wished the old bar would open. After the rebuild, there was somewhere to go. Softball. Kickball. A short walk across the street.
The room had been rebuilt. Now people could fill it.
04 · 2020
Then the regulars came back for takeout.
In 2020, gathering became complicated again.
Customers came for crawfish fries and tuna melts. A restaurant permit allowed patio service. Regulars returned in masks.
This time, keeping the place going meant changing how people used it. The bar adapted. Its customers met it halfway.
05 · The corner
A place to come back to.
The name remembers the water.
The wood remembers the houses.
But the story isn’t only what this corner survived. It’s what people made here afterward: a place to finish a game, share a meal, and come back to.

02 / Food & drink
The food gets more creative than the room lets on.
The surprise at Mid-City Yacht Club is a kitchen willing to cross categories. Local shrimp ends up inside a burger; pulled-pork barbecue lands on a shrimp taco; mussels arrive in craft-beer broth; crawfish rides on cheese fries. This is improvisational New Orleans bar food, built for repeat visits rather than menu theater.
Curious bar food / four Mid-City originals
The useful test for a sports-bar kitchen is how much of the menu you would order with no game on at all. MCYC clears it: local seafood, real craft-beer cooking, and weirdly convincing combinations keep the food in the memory.
